Reflecting on 2023

2023 was an incredibly busy year for us.

As Prince Harry’s memoir ‘Spare’ was released, documenting his fractious relationship with his brother, our fitters Dean and Dan kept their cool and maintained their ‘brotherly love’ at a complicated installation in Ash, where we installed ‘A’ rated sealed units into stone mullions. The job was long and arduous but the finished result was most certainly worth the job’s taxing nature.

Times were hard for many this month as bank interest rates rose and the dark and cold winter dragged on. Luckily for us, we remained busy at work throughout February and our installers kept their interest in their jobs as they carried out a variety of installations, ranging from tilt and turn aluminium into builder’s openings, to replacement bay PVCu windows and doors.

Spring should have sprung by now but this was the coldest March since 2010 so replacing two large bay windows this month was not for the faint hearted! Our installers worked tirelessly and efficiently to carry out this work quickly to get our customer’s home secure, snug and splendid once more, with minimal disruption and maximum results.

First Class, Second Class and Large Definitive stamps bearing the image of King Charles III were first issued this month. Although most of us are unlikely to have our image on a stamp, we can stamp our image on on homes! What better way to do so than with a new door or replacement window to the property. The below pictures show just some of the variety of work we carried out this month, and prove that this month we saw daffodils blooming which was a happy contrast to the cold month of March.

The last month of Spring 2023 saw the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla and more beautiful weather. During this month, we installed some really beautiful products, improving homes and providing finishing touches to new builds. After all, our homes are our castles, even if we haven’t been crowned king or queen!

This month, in Norton Sub Hamdon, we installed a beautiful warm roof conservatory with aluminium frames. The opening roof lights offer extra ventilation and the solar control glass and warm roof together provide a room in the house which can be enjoyed all year round, season to season. The beautiful sunshine was a great reason for our customers to enjoy their newly installed bifold doors.

National Treasure Elton John closed Glastonbury Festival this month, in what was a perfect example of beautiful Spring weather and although they’re not quite red, white and blue (the middle door is Painswick),the gorgeous composite doors installed this month look, when seen together side by side, quintessentially British.

With new film release ‘Barbie’ having the most successful opening weekend since ‘The Avengers: Endgame’ came out in 2019, many people must have been heading to the cinema this month: the figures speak for themselves! We, however, were very busy with home improvements. From doors with side panels to roof lights to verandas, we had a varied and successful month. And although we didn’t break any box office records, we are all very proud of our July achievements.

This month, Spain were crowned champions after defeating reigning European champions England 1–0 in the final of 2023’s FIFA Women’s World Cup. We carried out some glazing at a local sports, recreation, youth and community facility, The George Reynolds Centre, Crewkerne. Maybe we have a young sporting star who trains there, a future Lion or Lioness! Other things this months we carried out this month were a back door with a flag window, French doors and door with side screens and a lovely balustrade.

In September, we experienced a heatwave. This did not stop us work up a sweat!

We installed replacement Kommerling windows in South Petherton, a replacement conservatory complete with warm roof in Crewkerne and Timberlook Flush Sash windows (including a round window) in Thorncombe to name only a few of our September installations.

At the end of October, we were hit with storm Ciaran! Before this hit, we installed aluminium bifolds, composite doors and shaped casement windows galore! We also installed some heritage aluminium frames into hamstone at this beautiful property in Shepton Beauchamp. We think the anthracite grey looks amazing next to the sandy hue of the stone.  Very important too was the catflap we installed into this slim side screen. Thank goodness the cat could get in to escape from the whipping winds that Ciaran brought us!

This month we experienced the coldest night since 2010. Obviously one way to combat lower temperatures is to better insulate your home, and our customers were very happy that we were in attendance to carry out their installations! As well as installing replacement external doors, to keep the cold and damp at bay, we also glazed this amazingly ornate side screen, with all lead work and glazing done in house here by our talented lead specialist.

As the new years honour’s list was revealed, including Shirley Bassey and Somerset’s very own Michael Eavis, we also have to honour the wonderful AllGlass & Glazing Ltd team. Every person who works here is a crucial ingredient in our success, from the person who answers the first phone call to the person who reconciles the final invoice.  This year we have been busy from start to finish and our challenges have been many, but we have finished on a high! Thank you to all our customers for supporting us this year and we look forward to hearing from you in 2024.
